Every child and young person has the right to be active, to benefit from being active in a safe, positive and trusted environment, and to have an equal chance to achieve their potential. Greater Manchester (GM) has an ambition to make this the best place for children and young people to grow up, so here you will find links and information about various networks across GM working to meet this ambition.

Create Positive Experiences

Positive experiences at an early age help build the foundations for an active life. If children and young people have experiences that feel fun, positive and give them a sense of confidence, they’re more likely to want to be active in the future. To do this, we will:

  • Understand youth personalities: understanding different types of young people allows us to create the right spaces and opportunities for different personalities. Read Sport England's report on youth insight here.
  • Engage in youth voice: guidance to support organisations and individuals to create meaningful youth engagement to improve accessibility and opportunities. Find out more about the work on Youth Voice here.
  • Ensure all activities for children and young people are underpinned by appropriate safeguarding. Even if you’re signposting to an activity or provider, you should check these details. For further information visit the CPSU.
