GM Moving 2017-21, and the implementation plan outlines the journey we need to go on to realise our ambition. Working together towards these targets, every individual and organisation in Greater Manchester can make a #GMMoving pledge to identify how they can contribute to achieving the goal.

In order to measure progress towards this target, we have established the baseline and milestones along the way. A full breakdown of targets will be developed by autumn 2017, with the full release of Active Lives data for children.

The current baseline is shown below. Targets for 2021 and 2025 above are combined targets for adults and children.

The current baseline equates to 1,905,269 people moving* includes

  • 1,364,200 Active adults 16+ (62% of age group) (Active Lives data, Sport England)
  • 281,600 fairly active adults aged 16+ (12.8% of age group) (Active Lives data,)
  • 240, 234 fairly active and active 5-15 year olds (65% of age group (Most recent Health Survey for England which includes children’s data, 2015). nb. There is an insufficient sample size to to calculate GM specific figures, so the rate is for the North West.
  • 19,235 fairly active 2-4 year olds (17% of age group) - (Latest Health Survey for England which includes children’s data (2015). Insufficient sample size to calculate GM or North West, so national rates for this age groups are used.

A full breakdown of activity levels by age group are shown below. Targets will be set in autumn 2017 for each age group for fairly active and active categories.
