GreaterSport are working in partnership with the National Trust to deliver a programme of sporting activity in Lyme Park, with the aim of providing more things to do for existing visitors and to attract new visitors to the properties.

Lyme Park

Lyme Park is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and get active and outdoors with friends or the whole family. Located just south of Stockport and on the edge of the Peak District National Park, Lyme Park boasts magnificent parkland, woodland and moorland as well as a large house and formal gardens and an adventure play area, so there is plenty to do!

Running

Lyme Park has permanently marked trails of approximately 1.4 miles, 2 miles and 3 miles that are suitable for walkers and runners alike. These trails will take you to see Darcy’s Pool, Paddock Cottage and the Lantern Folly. Maps of these trails are available from the information centre.

Each Saturday morning at 9am, Lyme Park hosts a free timed 5k ParkRun. This is a stunning route where you may see Red Deer and experience the peace of the moorlands whilst being part of a friendly event. Come and join us and enjoy a tea, coffee and bacon sandwich afterwards!

Orienteering

Lyme Park has Xplorer trails set up around the park and gardens, providing families the change to explore the park together, learn basic map reading skills and discover interesting facts about British Wildlife, trees and flowers. Ask for your map and answer sheet at the information point.

There is a permanent orienteering course at Lyme Park and maps are available to purchase from the information centre. The routes cater for all abilities and are ideal for school, scout, guide and youth groups as well as visitors wishing to do something a bit different on their visit.

Get Sporty at Lyme

Lyme Park holds informal taster fun days for all the family during the school holidays. Lyme holds weekly sessions on Thursdays 1-3 pm. It's free for national trust members, and for non members an applicable fee will be required for parking and for access to the park. The kids will love it - come along and have a go! For more information visit the website.

Cycling

Lyme Park is gearing up to welcome visitors arriving by bike! They have installed cycle racks at the Timber Yard and in the car park near the information kiosk which are prime locations.
