Couch to 5k

There are lots and varied opportunities to jog and run all over Greater Manchester, and this page can help to get you going. We can help with planning your running route or we can help set you up with a local organisation.

You could take part in free weekly timed 5k runs through 13 Park Run's and 4 Great Run Local events (5k or 2k) across Greater Manchester. 


Are you new to running? You can run as part of weekly led beginner groups. Run England groups are led by qualified leaders and groups aim to help people to get started from walk-jogging to running for longer. Find your nearest group here.

Need a running plan? Visit Couch to 5K for a weekly running planner for beginners. Listen to a podcast whilst you run for advice on when to take breaks and when to give it all you've got. 

Would you prefer running away from traffic? There are several permanently marked routes in parks and open spaces across Greater Manchester. These are usually 1k, 2k and 3k loops or 1mile, 2 mile or 3 mile loops. Why not use them regularly as a measured route to monitor your progress, or use them to run by yourself or with friends in safe off road spaces. Find your nearest 3-2-1 route here.
