The Active Women Consortium are planning a sporting project aimed at young women in Greater Manchester and want your views to help shape it.
Below are explanations of the sports listed in the consultation to help you complete the survey.
Fast moving, evasive and involving minimal contact, Touch Rugby League is a game played all over the world by men and women of all ages and skills levels.
A simple yet exciting game, Touch promotes the fundamental skills of running, handling and support play, whilst developing the basic principles of attack and defence without the fear of getting hurt!
Here are just a few reasons why you should get involved in Touch Rugby League:
- It’s a great way of meeting people and involving partners or friends
- It’s a non-contact game so is almost completely injury free
- It’s a very social sport and is a great way of team building
Extremely sociable games where you can grab a racket, rally around friends and head on court for action supported by an activity leader. Whether you want to drop shot your way to a lower dress size, burn off those cheeky friday nights out with the girls or fill your free time when the kids are off swimming, no strings badminton has plenty to offer…
An opportunity to play in an informal environment, whatever your ability or fitness level. A kick about with friends, small sided games or some basic coaching to improve your skills the session can be adapted to you and how you want to play. Just Play!

England Netball’s Back to Netball provides a gentle introduction to the sport for female players over sixteen years of age. Sessions are coach led and cover basic skill development and court play. The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing Netball with friends. Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about getting active again, these sessions cater for all abilities. Get fit, have fun and make friends through Back to Netball.
RUSH Hockey is a new 4/5 aside adult game. It can be played indoors or outdoors on any surface. There are only a few rules and a larger ball will be used. Anyone can play it. It is fun, quick and offers people a great recreational sport to play.
Remember the game you played at school, well its still as much fun now you’ve grown up. Rounders is flexible and easy to play no matter how many people want to play. It’s a great way to keep fit but in a fun way and meet new people.
Anyone can play handball – It’s a great way to get fit and have fun at the same time. Handball has something to offer everyone. It’s a great mix of basketball, netball, football and rugby, and it’s popular with people who have played other sports but want to try something different.
The great thing about handball is that it can be as serious as you want it to be. At the top level it’s a pretty intense game, but for others it’s a really fun way to get fit and meet new people.
