GreaterSport will offer work placement opportunities for the following groups of young people:

• Those in the last 2 years of compulsory schooling
• Those taking courses of Further or Higher Education

For those in the last 2 years of compulsory schooling, placements will usually last for a maximum of two weeks; placements for those in FE/HE may vary in length depending on the course being followed. Work placement opportunities provided by GreaterSport will be established according to the following principles:

• All students will be required to make application in the form of a CV accompanied by a letter outlining the area(s) of interest they would hope to pursue during their placement, and making a case for their application.
• Priority will be given to young people who are normally resident within Greater Manchester or are studying at an institution within Greater Manchester.
• Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:
  • Relevance of GreaterSport’s work to the course being followed by the student
  • Relevance to GreaterSport of the area(s) of interest of the student
  • Enthusiasm, commitment and anticipated benefit to the student
  • Degree of support from parent/guardian and/or educational institution (as appropriate)
  • Willingness of a member of GreaterSport staff to act as the student’s mentor/placement co-ordinator.

Students will be asked to attend an informal ‘interview’/discussion with their prospective mentor and another member of staff prior to a formal offer of placement being made.
