Rugby Union The Rugby Football Union (RFU)
Since 1871 the Rugby Football Union has been working hard for the game of rugby. It is the governing body for the Game in England and membership has grown to comprise of approximately 2000 clubs, 27 Constituent Bodies (Counties), the Armed Forces, and Oxford and Cambridge Universities and Students on the principle of one member, one vote. To administer every facet of the game, the RFU currently has over three hundred permanent staff working from its headquarters in Twickenham and in its regional Schools and Referees centre in Wolverhampton.
RFU Mission Statement
- To promote and govern rugby union in England through maintaining stable structures for the game that enable its successful development at all levels for the benefit of its participants
- To be world leaders through excellence in every aspect of the elite game
- To promote and develop the game within the community so as to encourage optimum participation and enjoyment at every level
- To be commercially and financially the strongest Union in the world to provide the investment resource necessary to achieve our aspirations for the game
