Greater Manchester Police Authority
Greater Manchester Police Authority is an independent body which scrutinises and challenges the work of Greater Manchester Police to ensure the service delivered by the Force represents value for money for the people and visitors of Greater Manchester. The work of the Police Authority includes setting the police budget, deciding the priorities which the Force must work towards, holding the Chief Constable to account for police performance and hiring the Chief Officer team which includes the Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable, Assistant Chief Constables and Assistant Chief Officers.
Another important area of work for GMPA is consultation and engagement. Each year, a programme of work is delivered to provide local people with an opportunity to tell GMPA’s 19 Members what they think about important areas of policing such as the way the police budget is spent. The information people give is then used to inform Police Authority decisions. This ensures the views and opinions of Greater Manchester communities are considered when decisions which may affect them are made.
