Manchester's prestigious Bridgewater Hall played host to the recent launch of 'New Generation', the Strategy for the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership, 2005 - 2009.

Representatives of a wide range of organisations from across the county were in attendance to witness the culmination of six months of consultation, workshops and joint planning in the publication of the 'New Generation' document.

Richard Saunders, GMSP Chief Executive, paid tribute to the contributions of all those organisations involved in the formulation of the Strategy.

Delivery of the Partnership vision, "Creating a new generation of physically active people", would depend on the achievement of 3 key outcomes:

Andy Worthington, MBE, Chair of the North West Regional Sports Board, spoke with conviction about the opportunities which are currently presenting themselves for sport and physical activity to take significant strides forward over the next few years. A new impetus for national policy co-ordination, new funding streams and a higher profile with central government are combining to create a positive context for all those who work in sport. The 2012 Olympic Bid only adds to this sense of opportunity.
