HQSCL High Quality School Club Links

As of 31 December 2010 GreaterSport will no longer be accepting High Quality School Club Links (HQSCL) forms and all links will officially come to a close on 31 December 2011.

There are a number of reasons that it has been deemed an appropriate time to bring the scheme to a close:

  • Limited uptake in some areas of the county.
  • The current uncertainty around school sport structures which are referenced heavily both on the forms and relied on heavily for setting up, maintaining and utilising the links.
  • No national recognition or targets around links between schools and sports clubs coupled with a potential lack of capacity in the system may mean less uptake of the system in the future.
  • The emergence of a significant number of national governing body school to club link forms specific to individual sports has meant that the GreaterSport HQSCL form has become a form of duplication in a significant majority of sports.
  • High resource requirements for printing, web hosting, postage and officer time.

Despite this announcement, GreaterSport remains committed to linking curricular and extra-curricular sport and physical activity to the wider community sport network, this can be achieved through informal links or those developed though NGB processes or local authority schemes. GreaterSport continue to support the sole promotion of clubs, who have received Clubmark accreditation, to young people and their parents.

The government focus on ‘Big Society’ and volunteers puts community sports clubs in a position to continue this work, and GreaterSport will provide support and guidance in engaging with school sport, for more information please contact GreaterSport, 0161 223 1002.

GreaterSport retains the right to license and/or reintroduce this programme should it be seen to benefit the Greater Manchester sporting community.
