Bolton Arena Testimony

Sue Hayes, Programme Manager at Bolton Arena, approached GreaterSport to provide an insight into market segments for Bolton and Chorley and to provide an impartial analysis of her user data for the Arena. With a new strategy in place at the Arena, Sue was keen to explore new opportunities to increase participation rates across the region, particularly during the day with the appropriate products for the right people.

GreaterSport analysed Sport England’s Active People Survey, Obesity data, and Bolton Arena data sets to provide an insight into some of the challenges facing the local population in terms of physical activity levels, the potential markets around the Arena in terms of age and interests in sport and physical activity, and the locations of existing members. In a follow up meeting, Sue commented that she was able to use this intelligence to validate some of her thinking for future programming, and to eliminate certain ideas she was considering. Sue said “the piece of work that the GreaterSport team did gave me an increased focus on what programming I could provide and what markets I was best placed to target both in terms of my offer and geographical location. I was able to validate some ideas and eliminate others in order to achieve my longer term strategy and vision of providing appropriate activities during the day to increase physical activity levels in Bolton and Chorley”.
