What are SPAAs?
SPAAs are Sport & Physical Activity Alliances within local authority areas and will be the mechanism for identifying and prioritising initiatives for sport and physical activity at a local level. These alliances form an important part of the Delivery System for community sport and physical activity in England, as established by a national policy initiated by Sport England.
SPAAs will:
-
engage multi sectors through one network, forming a group of local ‘deliverers’ from agencies such as Education, Health, Community Safety, Leisure Management, the Voluntary sector, Local Authority, the Private sector, etc;build local capacity to increase participation;widen access to opportunities for local communities;provide Local Strategic Partnerships and Local Area Agreements with a mechanism to work with and through sport and physical activity;identify, prioritise and commission appropriate initiatives for communities in a delivery plan;be accountable for investments made;NOT be another layer of bureaucracy, but a hub for action.
