What are SPAAs?
SPAAs are Sport & Physical Activity Alliances within our ten Borough areas, each of which bring partners together via Theme working groups at a local level to collaborate on the sport and physical activity agenda. This facilitates joint planning, prioritisation and reporting across the sport and physical activity spectrum. The SPAAs form an essential part of the Delivery System for community sport and physical activity in England.
SPAAs aim to:
-
engage multi sectors through one network, forming a group of local ‘deliverers’ from agencies such as Education, Health, Community Safety, Leisure Management, National Governing Bodies of Sport, the Voluntary sector, Local Authority, the Private sector, etc;build local capacity to increase participation;widen access to opportunities for local communities;provide Local Strategic Partnerships and Local Area Agreements with a mechanism to work with and through sport and physical activity;identify, prioritise and commission appropriate initiatives for communities;be accountable for investments made;NOT be another layer of bureaucracy, but a hub for action.
