Volunteer Development Agencies
Volunteer Development Agencies (known as Volunteer Centres or Volunteer Bureaux) provide support in local boroughs to individual volunteers and to organisations that involve volunteers (sports clubs for example). Volunteer agencies can help you to find somewhere to volunteer or to find a new volunteer.
Volunteer Agencies have a number of key roles:
- Brokerage - they offer organisations somewhere to advertise opportunities - often on a bulletin board or through www.do-it.org.uk. Individuals can be matched with appropriate local opportunities
- Marketing Volunteering - look out for local campaigns around the CSV Make A Difference Day
- Good Practice Development - Volunteer Agencies may well run courses that can support you - whether advancing your organisation or learning new skills.
Find out where you local volunteer agency is and the support available in your area by visiting www.volunteering.org.uk/volunteerdevelopmentagencies/Findoutaboutvolunteeringinyourarea.htm NB: Bury, Manchester and Wigan do not currently have a volunteer centre - although plans are afoot for a Manchester Volunteer Centre.
