What is the Greater Manchester Youth Games?
The Games is a showcase of sport and arts development in Greater Manchester. The ten boroughs of Greater Manchester have units whose remit is to increase participation and develop young people through sport and arts. They aim to increase engagement with physical activity through structured sports and creative opportunities, as well as identify and encourage talented individuals and give them access to development pathways to success.
They work together with key partners such as National Governing Bodies of Sport, the Northwest Arts Board and AGMA to achieve these aims. The nature of the work makes it difficult show the impact of results however, the Youth Games give the opportunity to display and celebrate the year round work that takes place.

Where does it take place?
The Games takes place at four great facilities in Manchester: Sportcity, Broughton Park Rugby Club, Belle Vue Leisure Centre and the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Who takes part?
The day is for young people aged between 8 and 18. Each sport has different age ranges and development programmes that contribute to its participants. Each year over 2500 young people take part.
How are sports teams selected?
Teams for the sports competitions can be selected through interschool competitions, club competitions or trial processes. It depends on the sport, the borough and what programmes and initiatives are being run.
How are the participants selected for the Arts and Cultural competitions?
Participants for the arts and cultural parts of the day come from community groups and initiatives that the arts officers in Greater Manchester run. Groups or individulas are invited to take part because of the good quality of work they have produced.
Can we watch?
The event is free to anyone who wishes to come and spectate.
