Women into Higher Level Sports Coaching

What Will Mentoring Sessions Include?

Mentoring is an important part of the Women into Higher Level Sports Coaching programme. Our aim is to provide quality, one-to-one support that will help you identify and then work towards achieving your short and medium-term coaching and employment goals.

Our mentors are already qualified coaches with many years of coaching experience. They will also have undertaken a mentoring and coach support programme, designed to enable them to provide you with comprehensive

support and guidance.

First Phase: When you initially meet with your mentor, you will sign on to the programme. This will include discussing your training and development needs, and beginning a Personal Development Plan, aimed at helping you achieve your short and medium-term goals.

You will also be invited to attend an Induction Day, where you will meet all of the other coaches who will benefit from the programme’s support, your mentor, County Sports Partnership staff, and a range of higher-level coaches.

Second Phase: You will work with your mentor’s support, to develop your coaching skills and experience and enhance your generic awareness, knowledge and confidence. This may include shadowing your mentor or another coach, taking part in coaching sessions where you take control of the group, coaching in new environments, volunteering in new sporting areas, and so on. Your mentor can advise you on any further opportunities they have identified that might benefit your development as a coach.

You will also be able to attend workshops and seminars relating to employability, employment-related skills development, and entrepreneurship.

Third Phase: In this phase, you may have completed your Level 2 or Level 3 coursework, and be putting hours to complete the practical elements of your qualification. You will have the opportunity to attend a range of CPD, skills development and employment-related seminars and workshops.

Fourth Phase: You will begin to exit from the programme. This will include achieving your qualification, finishing off any generic or sport-specific skills development workshops, and completing all of your goals, as identified on your Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Final Phase: You will be invited to attend a Celebration Event, where you will be awarded a certificate to reflect your participation in the WiHLSC project.

We will also be hosting a national Conference on Women and Leadership in Sport. We will advise you of dates and venues as the project progresses.
