Date set for anniversary

'I love me' Greater Manchester Youth Games 20th Anniversary

The Greater Manchester Youth Games is set to celebrate its 20th Anniversary on 12th July 2008 at some of Manchester’s most prestigious venues.  The event, which will see nearly 3000 children aged 8 to 16 competing in this unique one-day competition shares its celebratory year with the 2008 Beijing Olympics, showing the scale of sporting opportunities that are available, from community participation to elite competition.

Richard Saunders, Chief Executive, GreaterSport says:

I have seen the Games develop since day one, and I am proud to be heading up the team that will deliver what is set to be a very special year.

Children are the lifeblood of the future of this country, and as such, we need to continue to provide young people with positive opportunities to get involved in sport, get fit and stay fit for life.

There is no other event like this in the country, and there is no doubt in my mind that this year will better than ever before.”

Venues this year will include Sportcity, Belle Vue Athletics Centre and Wright Robinson Sports College. The Sports College has been built under a PFI initiative, and is the first time that the college will see an event of this scale utlising the facilities.
