Play, Move & Learn (a conference focusing on Physical Development in the Early Years)

Saturday 24th March 2018 at Sale West Conference Centre, Sale M33 5JX.

9-1.30pm £65.00 per person

Co-hosted by GreaterSport and Quality4Early Years, Play, Move, Learn #PlayMoveLearn is a half-day conference which focuses on Physical Development in the Early Years.

Keynote Speaker

Our keynote speaker has been confirmed as Dr Lala Manners. Lala has been active in the field of Early Years Physical Development, Health and Wellbeing for many years – as teacher, educator, researcher, broadcaster and journalist in the UK and internationally.

Working in a wide range of settings including HMP Holloway, she has designed and delivered training opportunities to parents, health professionals/managers, sports coaches, Speech and Language Therapists and the Early Years workforce.

Lala currently leads the UKActive Early Years PD Advisory group and is a member of the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) ‘Fit and Healthy Childhood’ committee. She is also a frequent contributor to Nursery World magazine. In 2015 she created the ‘activematters’ website – a unique ‘learning hub’ for all those interested and involved in young children’s health and wellbeing.

Dr Lala’s Keynote entitled ‘I move therefore I am’ focuses on the critical importance of movement skills in ensuring the smooth overall development of young children. The difference in approach between ‘movement for learning’ and ‘activity for health’ – what we can do to maximise the physical activity level of children and remain true to our pedagogical roots.

We have three workshops running on the day, but one is now fully booked, the two remaining ones (which will run twice during the day) are as follows:-

Workshop A: Bags of Ideas (Dr Lala Manners)

Using a very simple piece of apparatus, we will explore the many and varied possibilities for physical activity; how this links to the three ‘prime areas’ of the EYFS in a manageable, sustainable and effective way.

B: The Mark Making to Writing Journey: Conquering the challenge of helping children to develop the physical skills needed to write (Sheron Kantor)

Sheron is an experienced early years practitioner, trainer, accredited moderator, education charity director and senior quality and outcomes consultant. Before working in Bolton Local Authority, Sheron worked independently as an Early Education Consultant across Greater Manchester providing support and challenge to settings and schools.

This practical workshop will help you to support children in the EYFS to develop the physical skills needed to become confident writers and ultimately improve writing outcomes for every child.

*Please note that we are going to be moving during this conference so please come in suitable clothing/footwear!
