This is the basic level of coaching qualification, which gives outline knowledge of basketball and enables the holder to introduce basketball and to assist a coach award holder (or above). The holder is not covered by the association’s insurance for working unsupervised and must work under the supervision of a minimum of a level 2 coach award holder.

Individuals who usually attend this course are parents of performers, sports centre staff, teachers, youth workers, players or ex-players, interested adults, students etc.

The award is accredited by Basketball England.

Learners for this award shall be assessed by the course tutor taking a minimum of one 10 minutes coaching session with a group of players (6-10). The course tutor is responsible for continual assessment of the students for the duration of the course and for making the final decision regarding gaining the award.
