Eamonn O’Rourke has worked in the sport and leisure sector throughout his 40 year career, mainly in the local authority area having worked for and then headed up Manchester City Councils Community and Cultural Services. During this period working through two Olympic Bids and being seconded to the 2002 Commonwealth Games Organisation and then sitting on the 2012 London Legacy Group, Eamonn has gained much experience in developing strategies for bidding and hosting major National, European and World Sporting events with a keen emphasis on levering in legacy from these major events for the long term benefit of local communities.
More recently Eamonn has worked as an independent sport and leisure consultant focusing on organisational strategy and developing high level performance having worked on projects for Swim England, Manchester Etihad Development Company, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Kendal RFU amongst others. Eamonn has also
Chaired a number of Major Sport Event Stakeholder Groups including the 2017 World Squash Championships, the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships and the 2017/18/19 LEN Water Polo Events held in Manchester. Sitting as a non-executive Director on the English Water Polo Management Group, County Sports Partnership, Trafford Leisure, GreaterSport Board and on the England Squash Board provides the opportunity to share his extensive experience and to support and assist sporting charities and national governing bodies of sport in developing future facing strategies.
It is in this context that sitting on the GreaterSport Board as a non-executive director and supporting a great team allows Eamonn to bring his extensive local experience and professional expertise to help the GreaterSport leadership in focussing on the future challenges and opportunities to assist the organisation to be as successful and sustainable as possible.
