Shirley Hurst

Job Role: To ensure GM Moving is an integral and valued part of the GM landscape working closely with partners to maximise the benefits of physical activity in wider strategies, placed based connector/relationship manager for 4 GM boroughs (Manchester, Bolton, Wigan, Oldham), leadership of the Research and Insight team, support delivery of large scale events and lead on GM wide legacy of major sporting events to help inspire people to be more active and healthier. Shirely is currently on secondment with Active Partnerships.

Professional background: After graduating with a degree in Sports Management, my career began at Ribble Valley Borough Council as a Community Sports Officer. I always wanted to experience living in a different country so I went to work in America for a year as a Club Coach & Camp Director for Challenger Sports, which gave me the opportunity to work in many parts of America.

When I returned I joined Manchester County Football Association for 7 years, starting as Women/Girls Football Development Officer and progressing to Senior Football Development Officer.

From there I joined Greater Manchester Moving as a Development Manager, and progressed to Senior Relationship Manager, and am still thriving and enjoying the challenge of working in Greater Manchester to get people active!!
