Greater Manchester Sports Awards

The Greater Manchester Sports Awards recognise incredible achievements and dedication towards physical activity and sport across the County.

The 19th annual Greater Manchester Sports Awards returned to Emirates Old Trafford on 15th November, shining a spotlight on the role sport and physical activity play in changing lives. Over 500 guests came together to celebrate the outstanding talent, hard work and passion of those who go the extra mile to deliver community grassroots sport across the city region.

Recognised for their outstanding contributions over the last 12 months, ten winners enjoyed a fantastic evening bursting with inspirational stories whilst enjoying a drinks reception, a 3 course meal, the awards and entertainment.

About the awards

There is so much work being done in Greater Manchester to provide opportunities for our residents to be active and these awards aim to recognise this amazing work. It aims to thank those who have gone above and beyond or gone that extra mile, who's had their greatest sporting year to date? Who has changed their life for the better because of getting active?

The 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester hold their own awards and the winners are invited to the Greater Manchester event where the Greater Manchester champions are crowned in the following categories;

Changing Lifestyle Award sponsored by GM Ageing Hub- For a person who has used physical activity to transform their lifestyle for the better.

Club of the Year supported by Sport England - For a community club or community group who has had an impact in their local community in the given time period.

Meet the finalists

Young Sports Achiever of the Year sponsored by GM Active - This award is for young athletes (aged under 18) who are not professionally funded who have had significant success in their sport throughout the year.

Unsung Hero Award sponsored by HGA Creative - This award recognises long term volunteers (over 10 years) who have made a significant difference over that timeframe.

Volunteer of the Year sponsored by Emirates Old Trafford - This award is for volunteers who have given up their time to volunteer over the given time frame.

School Commitment to PE and Sport Award sponsored by School Lettings Solutions - This award recognises schools that have gone above and beyond in respect to incorporating activity into a school day for their pupils and staff.

Workforce Advocate Award supported by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership - This award recognises an individual that has used physical activity or sport within their professional role to have positive impacts.

Initiative of the Year sponsored by GM Active - This award recognises a physical activity initiative by an organisation which has made a difference in communities and achieved positive social outcomes.

Greater Manchester Mayor’s Award supported by That counts! Collective – for an individual / group / organisation for their commitment and contribution to getting Greater Manchester Moving.

Active workplace of the Year supported by GM Moving – An employer (no matter of size) for making a difference on employees levels of activity during the working day.
