Winter School Games

The Greater Manchester Winter School Games will see students participate in seven events across five sports.

The Greater Manchester Winter School Games will take place at the Etihad Campus on Wednesday 25th March 2020. Around 800 children from across Greater Manchester will be participating with schools having qualified through borough competitions or by being nominated by their local School Games Organiser.

Athletics

Competition: Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics
Event type: Excel
Maximum squad size: 30

With six track and six field events for teams to participate in, individuals will compete in up to two track and two field events and the overall team score will be calculated to find the Greater Manchester champions.

Boccia

Competition: Year 5/6
Event type: SEND
Maximum squad size: 5

A game of skill and subtlety, boccia will see teams work to find the best strategy to get their balls closest to the jack.

Multiskills

Competition: Year 3/4
Event type: Bee Proud 
Maximum squad size: 12

This event will see children try their hand at a number of different activity stations as they are provided with the opportunity to develop their skills in a fun environment.

Rugby League

Competition: Year 5/6 Tag
Event type: Excel and Values
Maximum squad size: 12

In the Excel competition the winners from each of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester will compete to become the Greater Manchester champion. Meanwhile, the Values competition will see the spirit scorecard utilised with teams being scored on the School Games values and the results of the game.
