Football - Curzon Ashton FC

Curzon Ashton FC have an established veterans football team.

The team hold regular friendly matches against other veterans teams in the North West. 

They also won the recent veterans 7-a-side tournament (held as part of the Armistice Day Centenary events) against teams from Burnley and Man City, beating Man City on penalties in the final.

They meet every Friday from 6 till 7pm.

Football - City in the Community

Manchester City in the Community and Moving Forces launched a new military veterans' football team on 1st October.

We now have between 10 and 15 players at training every week, where the sessions are fun, relaxed and open to players of all fitness levels and abilities.

The team plays in full Man City kit and have already played friendlies against veterans teams from Curzon Ashton and Burnley FC, with many more games planned for 2019.

Training is every Monday from 6 till 7pm at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre near the Etihad stadium.

Rugby - Aldwinians RUFC

Sale Sharks and Aldwinians RUFC launched a new veterans rugby team in November 2018.

Training sessions are every Wednesday from 7 till 8pm.

The training is delivered by coaches from Sale Sharks and England Rugby. The sessions are fun, relaxed and open to all ages, fitness levels and abilities. 

The team will play its first friendly match in February 2019.

Gym / Swim / Cycling - Active Tameside

Active Tameside are offering a deal for armed forces veterans to pay just £12.50 for a monthly 'cash pass'.

The cash pass gives you unlimited off-peak access to all Active Tameside gyms and all open swim sessions for 1 month at a time.

There is no requirement to commit to several months membership. If you wish to continue after 1 month you simply pay £12.50 each time on a month by month basis.

The pass also gives you access to the regular cycling sessions at the dedicated cycle circuit next to Curzon Ashton FC.

Walking Football

Walking Football sessions are delivered by Curzon Ashton FC and Man City in the Community.

Curzon Ashton FC host sessions twice a week.

They meet every Monday and Friday from 11am till 12pm.

City in the Community also host sessions twice a week.

They meet at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre every Tuesday from 12 till 1pm and every Friday from 11am till 12pm.

Boot Camp - British Military Fitness

British Military Fitness offer a 20% discount for Military Veterans for all their memberships.

Sessions are available all over Manchester, including at Stamford Park in Ashton every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 till 8.

All the staff are ex-forces and often stay behind after each session to chat with the other veterans.

Each session has 3 ability groups so it's suitable for all fitness levels and is much more fun and relaxed than your average 'PTI Beasting'!

Indoor Climbing - Manchester Climbing Centre

Moving Forces and Curzon Ashton Community Foundation are delivering 12 weeks of indoor climbing sessions from 11th December 2018 to 12th March 2019.

Sessions are held at the Manchester Climbing Centre on Tuesday from 6 till 7pm

Open to all ages and fitness levels.

Opportunity to achieve level 1 coaching qualification (optional).

Wild Camping - Activate

The next Wild Camp is the Back to Basics Retreat in partnership with Activate and Belisma, which is from 19th to 20th January 2019 near Preston (by the River Ribble)

Are you tough enough for winter wild camping? Get your hands dirty with some forestry work, natural clay pottery and enjoy some time by the riverside all washed down with a campfire and BBQ. Tents and camp beds are provided, you will just need a sleeping bag, warm casual clothing your grub and a muck in attitude!

If you're struggling to get your hands on a decent sleeping bag, we may be able to provide one.

We also provide a minibus pickup and drop off in Tameside, so no need to worry about how you'll get to Preston and back.

We only have 10 spaces available, so if you're interested get in touch soon

Table Tennis - Curzon Ashton FC

Moving Forces and Curzon Ashton Community Foundation are launching 12 weeks of Table Tennis sessions from 10th January 2019.

Sessions are held at Curzon Ashton FC on Thursday from 6 till 7pm

City in the Community run several inclusive football teams which cater for people with disabilities including:

Crown Green Bowls and Social Club - TASC

Tameside Armed Services Community (TASC) run a weekly social club for ex-forces personnel to play bowls, join a craft activity or just chat.

The club meets every Wednesday from 7 till 9pm at Waterloo Park Centre in Ashton.

The group is free, but a small donation towards refreshments would be appreciated.

Kayaking - Water Adventure Centre (WAC)

Moving Forces and Water Adventure Centre (WAC) Droylsden arrange regular kayaking sessions.

The sessions are relaxed, fun and open to all abilities. 

The sessions are sometimes also open to veterans' families (subject to availability)

Wheelchair Basketball

Manchester Mavericks are keen to welcome military veterans to their wheelchair basketball sessions.

Mavericks give every member an opportunity to enjoy wheelchair basketball by developing to their full potential, as a player, coach, official or club volunteer in their chosen position in the club, while having as much fun, as possible

Training from 2pm every Sunday at the National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue Sports Village

Hyde parkrun

Fancy doing a timed 5k run for free with loads of support from a team of friendly volunteers?
