On Saturday 3rd February the Greater Manchester School Games Cross Country Championships in partnership with the Manchester PE Association took place at Heaton Park. In true cross country style, the weather conditions weren’t the best, it was very cold, windy and there was a lot of rain; but never the less our competitors were ready to run and do the best they could.

There were 4 different race categories which would be competing that day:

  • Primary boys
  • Primary girls
  • Secondary boys
  • Secondary girls.

School students from all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester entered and they were excited to represent themselves, their school and their borough.

The first race of the day was the primary girls who lined up at the start and were ready to take on the 2KM muddy course followed by the boys who were just as eager to participate.

Then came the secondary girls and secondary boys. Due to having a high amount of competitors and the variety of ages these were split down into smaller categories:

Minor – Year 7’s
Junior – Year 8’s and 9’s
Inter – Year 10’s and 11’s
Senior – Colleges

There was a lot of great racing and talent on the day, a couple of stumbles and falls too but against the harsh weather conditions all the competitors gave the spectators an exciting race.
