GreaterSport board member, Paula Dunn has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's honours list for her services to athletics in her role as Para Athletics Head Coach at UK Athletics.

Paula Dunn became the first female and BAME Para Athletics Head Coach in 2012 and since taking the post has led the British team to their highest ever medal tallies in the modern era at the Paralympic Games in 2016, World Para Athletics Championships in London, and the WPA European Championships.

Paula became an Olympian in 1988 running the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Seoul. She is a four-time Commonwealth medallist and a European bronze medallist.

Paula has been a board member at GreaterSport for 6 years and has provided invaluable support to the organisation, especially the workforce team as they developed the workforce strand to the 'Changing Our Lives Together' strategy. The workforce strand looks at how we can support clubs, coaches and volunteers as well as the professional workforce.

Paula is in good company in the list with Elaine Wyllie, The Founder of The Daily Mile also included. Elaine will receive an MBE for her services to the Fitness of Children. Elaine and The Daily Mile have worked closely with GreaterSport over the last 18 months as Greater Manchester became the first city region committed to The Daily Mile.

The Daily Mile is simple and free and gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom. There are now over 420 schools/nurseries signed up to and committed to The Daily Mile.
