We’re delighted that our work with The Proud Trust to get young LGBT people in Greater Manchester more physically active has been shortlisted for The Creative Partnership Award at the Community Sport and Recreation Awards. The award celebrates clubs/programmes that have worked in partnership to secure financial sustainability, drive participation and get the inactive active through either sport, recreation or physical activity.

With the young LGBT community being one of the least active cohorts across Greater Manchester, and sport and physical activity having positive correlations with health and wellbeing our two organisations were in a good place to work together.

The partnership involved creating opportunities through Sportivate and Satellite Club funding and consulting with the young people about what activities they would like to take part in. This resulted in creating cycling opportunities, fitness sessions and mass participation events and SportYSeptember, a month dedicated to young people from the LGBT community being more active across the North West. This led to successfully securing funding from Sport England’s Small Grants to further grow the participation, training and coaching workforce among the North West LGBT community.

GreaterSport CEO Sara Tomkins said “We’re committed to changing lives through physical activity and sport for all, but especially those in underrepresented groups such as the young LGBT community. We’re delighted that our partnership with The Proud Trust has been shortlisted for this award and are excited to continue to work together to get the LGBT community more active.”
