William Hare Group celebrates the dedication and commitment of coaches in Greater Manchester

The Greater Manchester Sports Awards, now in their 18th year, take place on 16th November at The Point Emirates Old Trafford. They celebrate the outstanding commitment and achievements made in physical activity and sport across Greater Manchester. BBC Radio Manchester presenter Chelsea Norris is the night’s host, who will be joined by guest speaker Claire Lomas; marathoner, motor biker, hand cyclist and campaigner. The 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester hold their own awards and the winners from eight categories are invited to the Greater Manchester event.
William Hare Group are the official sponsors of the Coach of the Year Award which celebrates the selfless commitment made by coaches throughout the area. These individuals sacrifice enormous amounts of their personal time and significantly help players improve their technical ability, acting as role models for many. Many have also shown incredible loyalty to their clubs, often playing a critical role in their growth. The coaches battling it out to become Greater Manchester champions are;

- Bury - Kyle Hall (Football)
- Manchester - John Smith (Athletics)
- Oldham - Lee Hadfield (Football)
- Rochdale - Rob Johnson (Football)
- Salford - Jessica Fletcher (Synchronised Swimming)
- Stockport - Ian Travis (Basketball)
- Tameside - Steve Bates (Running)
- Trafford - Jane Dennison (Running)
- Wigan - Danielle Knowles (Dance)
This year’s winner will follow in the footsteps of Wigan’s Rick Atkinson, 2017 Greater Manchester Coach of the Year. As Head Coach at Wigan Swimming Club he voluntarily coaches around 12-hours-a-week, sits on various swimming boards and encourages others to take up coaching. He also runs a young volunteer programme and an aquatic leader’s scheme, working with 24 young volunteers each year, nurturing essential skills such as running events, poolside safety and basic coaching techniques.
