A key GM Moving priority is to create the conditions for active adults in everyday life, designing activity into everyday habits, routines and spaces.
There are one million adults between the ages of 25 to 50 across Greater Manchester, 28.5% are inactive.
There are often cultural, structural and systemic barriers to being active. These will differ for people from different backgrounds, life stages, circumstances and characteristics.
We also know that as we age, barriers to movement increase. This can exacerbate health inequalities; Life expectancy has increased, but many people are living in poor health for longer.
In order to support more adults from across Greater Manchester to live in good health, for longer, we need to make it easier for everyone to move more in everyday life.
We can do this by designing it into daily habits, routines, activities and spaces. And, change the narrative about what movement means for different people.
We will do this by working collaboratively to create the conditions for movement. Collective approaches will also recognize and respond to diversity. This will help ensure movement and physical activity is accessible to all.
