The latest Active Lives data shows that there has been a decline in activity levels across Stockport in the last 12 months. 73.8% of adults in Stockport are now moving (active and fairly active), this equates to 174,400 adults. Since Active Lives launched, November 2015-16, the inactivity rate has increased by 3.1%, meanwhile in Greater Manchester the rate has increased by 2.6%.

When this latest release is combined with activity data on children and young people, 202,300 Stockport residents are moving.

Demographic data

The inactivity gender gap in Stockport is 5.9%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has increased by 5.0%. This change is due to a greater rate of increase in inactivity amongst women (+5.5%) than men (+0.5%).

The inactivity socio-economic gap in Stockport is 19.4%

Since November 16/17 the socio-economic gap has increased by 16.9%. This increase has been driven by a large increase amongst lower socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 6-8, (+17.4%) and a small increase amongst higher socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 1-2 (+0.5%).

The inactivity disability gap in Stockport is 19.4%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has decreased by 1.6%. This change is due to a smaller increase in inactivity amongst with a long term limiting disability (+1.1%) than amongst those with no long term limiting disability (+2.8%).

The inactivity age gap in Stockport is 26.6%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has decreased by 2.3%. This decrease has been driven by falling inactivity amongst over 75's (-1.6%) and an increase in inactivity amongst 16 to 34 year olds (+0.7%).
