Leadership and workforce

A key GM Moving ambition is to realise the power and potential of a movement of people that is reflective of the population, to inspire, engage and support people to live more active lives.

The people who spend their time enabling others to move more are our most valuable resource. Future and existing leaders need to be equipped and supported to meet the changing needs of our communities. These people should not be defined by hierarchies or their specialisms, paid or unpaid; the skills we want to foster and develop exist in all levels of society to include volunteers in community groups alongside chief executives in our larger corporate, public sector and voluntary sector organisations.

We want to harness people’s passion and enthusiasm for physical activity and sport to support others to move more in all ways, be that through coaching or peer support in our communities and neighbourhoods; through conversations, stories and advocacy; or in policy-making and investment or decision-making processes.

This is a key focus to ensure that we embed physical activity and sport into everyday lives. We want to realise the power and potential of a movement of people that is reflective of the population, to inspire, engage and support people to live more active lives.
