Now spring is well and truly on its way, we wanted to give an update on how the GM Walking Fund has been working to get our Greater Manchester communities out and being active together over the winter months.

Working together with Salford CVS and 10GM, we have been distributing grants to voluntary and community groups across all ten boroughs with the aim of bringing communities together to walk and wheel whatever the weather!

We all feel better when we move a bit more. All 36 projects we have funded will help people improve their physical and mental health, while having fun and making new friends at the same time.

There are an incredibly diverse range of projects, from walking groups and photography walks to bilingual walk and talk sessions, and improving public park improvements to make them more accessible for people with mobility needs.

Whether it’s walking activities for disabled children and young people and their families in Stockport, wellbeing walks in Wigan for new mums and mums-to-be, or walking tours of Manchester run by guides who have lived experience of homelessness, these fantastic projects have brought light and laughter to the cold winter months for everyone who has joined in.

Over the coming months we’ll be sharing some stories of how the projects went and meeting some of the people that have been involved in the great work.

Keep an eye on our GM Walking website and our social media to keep up to date with the latest news.
