GM Moving are proud to be supporting a celebration of health and movement at Stretford parkrun on Saturday 5 July with local healthcare staff in Trafford.

Trafford NHS Talking Therapy team and local GPs are coming together for the first time to celebrate community wellbeing and the NHS’s birthday at Longford Park.

Parkrun offers a fun, free, and simple way for everyone to connect, move and support their health and wellbeing.

GM Moving are working with partners so that staff, patients, families, and friends throughout Sale and Trafford can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate in a way that works for them.

The event is the latest step in our efforts to celebrate the fundamental role that movement, physical activity, and sport plays in health creation, and improving health and care systems.

Many GP practices in Sale, for example, are Active Practices – a national initiative from The Royal College of GPs (RCGP) and Sport England to inspire and celebrate GP practices that commit to increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour in staff and patients.

The Active Practice Charter supports the integration of physical activity into clinical pathways and the NHS workforce to be active, two of NHS England’s four ways forward for harnessing the benefits of physical activity in healthcare.

A shift towards a more active health and care service will support government’s shift from sickness towards prevention, part of the NHS 10-Year Plan unveiled this week.

GM Moving’s Project Lead for Health, Imogen Halls, said:

“We’re delighted to see health and community services come together to celebrate the joy of moving for health at Stretford parkrun.

“Whether you’re walking, wheeling, running, or volunteering, the celebration takeover is the perfect place for the community to come together; a free event which promotes health and wellbeing in a fun, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

“We know moving more is crucial for improving the physical and mental health of both healthcare staff and their patients, and we look forward to seeing many others getting involved in their local areas too!”
