Trafford Council has successfully bid for nearly £20m to help revitalise Partington Sports Village.

The investment will safeguard the future of vital leisure facilities in the town and also help to address some of the economic issues the area faces. It will also help deliver significant health and wellbeing benefits.

The plans include:

  • Partington Leisure Centre - upgrading the current leisure centre through a full refurbishment
  • Pump Track - improved BMX pump track and associated facilities for public usage,
  • Cross Lane Changing Rooms – full renovation of changing rooms at Cross Lane Park
  • Trim Trail and Public Realm – introduction of path around park to enhance access and support walking and running in the area. This will be supported by landscaping work to provide better linkage across the site

The £18m for Partington Sports Village has been awarded from the government’s Levelling Up Fund. It is one of more than 100 projects across the UK to receive a share of £2.1bn to create jobs and boost economic growth.

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said:

“This is fantastic news and gives us the opportunity to significantly improve the health and leisure offer for residents in Partington. We believe these new sports facilities will mean more people taking part in sporting and leisure activities.

“It will also create jobs and provide training opportunities and lead to more investment in the area. It ties in with our corporate priorities of reducing health inequalities and supporting people out of poverty.

“We have worked closely with the community on developing these plans and I must thank them for their support. We have other plans for the area as well including improving the transport infrastructure in Partington.

“My administration wants to improve the lives of everyone in the borough and we want to make sure we continue to invest in all areas of Trafford.”
