The Active Pregnancy Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting women to enjoy and benefit from being active throughout pregnancy and beyond, is holding an awareness raising and fundraising walk across the Peak District. Starting in Macclesfield the team will walk to Sheffield Children’s Hospital crossing the Peak District from West-East.

Walking Mums The charity have invited mums and mums-to-be, their partners, family, and friends to walk with the team. Midwives, doctors, physiotherapists and fitness professionals (in fact anyone passionate about the benefits of being active!) have also been invited to join them on sections of the 40 mile route.

Walkers can be pregnant, postnatal, carrying their baby in a sling, pushing a pushchair or just coming along to support our efforts, all are invited to enjoy the simple pleasure of walking and talking in the beautiful British countryside. Walkers will be participating at a pace and distance that’s right for them, with many joining at Lyme Park on the Saturday, Forge Dam and Edgecliff Park on Monday.

Walking is by far the most popular activity for pregnant women, which is why organisations, such as Blaze Trails, who provide walking sessions for parents, particularly mums and mums-to-be, are also invited to join in.

Why Sheffield Children’s Hospital? The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Trust was part of a This Mum Moves (TMM) pilot training programme. The training provided healthcare professionals with the tools, knowledge and confidence to offer pregnant women and new mums very brief advice on being physically active during pregnancy and after childbirth. The success of the pilot has meant the TMM programme has now trained nearly 500 people. The event aims to raise money for the charity and raise awareness of the benefits of being active in pregnancy, and will coincide with National Fitness Day - www.activepregnancyfoundation.org www.justgiving.com/fundraising/apf-team-challenge-2022
