GreaterSport is to host a new Community of Practice focused solely on volunteering as the charity implements the first of eight recommendations in a new report.

The report, by researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University and Bolton Council, looks at how we can develop our approach to volunteering in movement, physical activity, and sport.

Focus groups, surveys, and secondary research all helped to build the picture of volunteering in Greater Manchester with eight recommendations made across four themes: partnership and community, sharing and distribution, communication and promotion, and research.

Holly Grimes, GreaterSport’s People & Leadership Lead, said:

“Volunteering in movement, physical activity, and sport, can generate huge benefits for individuals, organisations and society.

“There’s a vast network across Greater Manchester who give up their time in aid of others and we want to understand this landscape and what’s needed to better support our volunteers.

“I look forward to developing a collaboration of people and organisations passionate about the power of volunteering in movement, physical activity and sport.”

Join our Community of Practice

The focus of the inaugural meeting will be on sharing and discussing the key findings of the volunteering research (available to download below), with stories from the VCSE Advisory Group and research team.

Anyone with an interest in volunteering in movement, physical activity and sport can sign-up to attend the Community of Practice on Thursday 25 May at the St Thomas Centre.

There will also be an opportunity to shape the direction of future Community of Practices which will be held quarterly.

Our volunteering research report

GreaterSport have been working closely with 10GM, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Bolton Council to conduct this research into the volunteering landscape in Greater Manchester.

It is aimed to help us to develop a collective understanding of how to build a systemic approach to volunteering in movement, physical activity, and sport.

GreaterSport have been working closely alongside a Volunteering Advisory Group to ensure the work reflects those at the heart of volunteering across different sectors, communities, and places.
