Sport England this morning released the latest Active Lives data for adults, covering November 2020 to November 2021. This survey period includes five months of notable restrictions (two-and-a-half months of full national lockdowns and two-and-a-half months of significant restrictions).

The proportion of adults moving for at least 30 minutes a week in Greater Manchester is 70.3%, which equates to 1,590,900 adults.

This is an increase of 39,000 (1.4%) adults moving across the County compared to the previous 12 months, but still 3.5% (59,000 adults) below pre pandemic data figures (2019). 

Locality data

With regards to locality data, we have received headline figures as follows;

  • In Bolton 65.8% are moving which equates to 148,800 people, this is an increase of 10,000 (4.3%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Bury 74.7% are moving which equates to 113,600 people, this is an increase of 2,200 (1.4%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Manchester 72.7% are moving which equates to 322,000 people, this is an increase of 15,500 (3.2%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Oldham 66.7% are moving which equates to 123,000 people, this is an increase of 1,400 (0.5%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Rochdale 64.3% are moving which equates to 112,600 people, this is an increase of 500 (0.0%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Salford 67.0% are moving which equates to 140,400 people, this is a decrease of 4,600 (-3.3%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Stockport 75.3% are moving which equates to 178,300 people, this is an increase of 3,900 (1.5%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Tameside 67.6% are moving which equates to 122,500 people, this is a decrease of 3,100 (-1.9%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Trafford 74.6% are moving which equates to 139,400 people, this is a decrease of 4,400 (-2.5%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Wigan 70.8% are moving which equates to 190,200 people, this is an increase of 17,700 (6.2%) compared to the previous 12 months.

We are awaiting a more detailed breakdown from Sport England and once this has been analysed will share further data on activity levels in Greater Manchester and the 10 localities. More data on the Active Lives November 20-21 release can be found on the Sport England website.
