Sport England this morning released their latest Active Lives data for adults, covering November 2022 to November 2023.

Greater Manchester headline data

The proportion of adults moving for at least 30 minutes a week in Greater Manchester is 72.0%, which equates to 1,670,800 adults. 

Moving rates have remained stable, with no change, (from 72.0%) but with population growth there are 26,600 more adults moving across the County compared to the previous 12 months. 

 Locality headline data 

With regards to locality data, we have received headline figures as follows; 

  • In Bolton71.2% are moving which equates to 167,000 people, this is an increase of 0.7% (70.6%%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • InBury73.2% are moving which equates to 114,000 people, this is a decrease of 1.8% (75.0%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • In Manchester72.5% are moving which equates to 329,300 people, this is an increase of 0.9% (71.6%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • In Oldham65.0% are moving which equates to 122,700 people, this is a decrease of 6.5% (71.5%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Rochdale65.6% are moving which equates to 116,300 people, this is a decrease of 1.2% (66.7%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • InSalford74.9% are moving which equates to 167,600 people, this is an increase of 4.7% (70.3%) compared to the previous 12 months.
  • In Stockport76.2% are moving which equates to 183,200 people, this is an increase of 1.0% (75.2%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • In Tameside68.6% are moving which equates to 128,100 people, this is a decrease of 0.8% (69.4%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • In Trafford75.2% are moving which equates to 140,600 people, this is a decrease of 1.2% (76.4%) compared to the previous 12 months. 
  • In Wigan 74.1% are moving which equates to 202,000 people, this is an increase of 1.3% (72.9%) compared to the previous 12 months. 

We are awaiting a more detailed breakdown from Sport England and once this has been analysed will share further data on activity levels in Greater Manchester and the 10 localities.
