Greater Manchester’s employees spend a minimum of 60% of their waking hours at work. For many people, that means over 50% of their day is spent inactive.

There are 849,062 over 50's in GM and they are twice as likely to be inactive than a 16 – 34 year old. By the time they are 75 they are 3 x more likely to be inactive.

There are a number of subsets of the Greater Manchester population who are more likely to be inactive than others. We're working to reduce these inequalities to enable everyone across Greater Manchester to be physically active.

In Greater Manchester there are currently 336,000 people volunteering in sport and activity ensuring there are opportunities for all ages to take part in activity and that professional sport is showcased with slick processes through event support.

Almost 2,500 schoolchildren from across Greater Manchester came together on 26th June for the Greater Manchester Summer School Games. The event, consisting of 21 competitions in 13 sports and activities took place at eight venues across the region, starting off with an Opening Ceremony at The Regional Athletics Arena.
