Active Lives

The latest Active Lives results released by Sport England show that there are now 73.3% adults active for at least 30 minutes a week in Greater Manchester, which equates to 1,639,000 adults. This is an increase of 14,900 from the survey 12 months ago and a total increase of 68,100 since the survey began in 2015 – 16.

A recent study from the University of Bristol has found that there is a dramatic drop in the physical activity levels of children by the time they reach the end of primary school.

45.2% of children and young people are now achieving an average of 60 minutes of physical activity a day. Whilst more than three in ten are failing to achieve 30 minutes of activity a day.

As we age, inactivity (less than 30mins a week) increases, with older adults being more than twice as likely to be inactive, 75+ years 54% and 55+ years 36.8% compared to 16-34 year olds 18.7% in GM.

Six in ten children and young people in Greater Manchester are not active enough. 35.8% of children and young people, on average, do less than 30 minutes of activity each day, with only 39.9% doing at least 60 minutes or more.
